What Happens Here
The Academy runs weekly. Critique, lectures and open questions, with the studio documented as it works.
Weekly Critique
Bring one work, finished or not. It is looked at properly and spoken about plainly — the argument is with the work, never with the person who made it. Every critique is recorded and stays in the Archive.
Lectures
On classical method and on refusal: what the tradition gives an artist and what it costs them. Lectures are followed by open questions and remain available as replays.
Questions & Answers
Anything on method, materials or the programme itself. Questions can be put in advance through the Assembly, or asked live.
The Studio
Works in progress, sketches, references, materials and notes, published as they happen. Nothing in the Studio is finished, and nothing in it is meant to be — it is a working record, not a portfolio.
Florence Mentorship
Separate from membership, and much smaller. A holistic mentorship in which chosen artists learn not only about art but about a lifestyle — refining their craft while gaining insight into Stokes’ philosophies, techniques, and the aspects of a life that inform an artistry. Entry is by application: three to five works, reviewed by Thelonious Stokes.
Every session is recorded and stays in the Archive.
